Seventeen years ago my husband told me that he had started on feminizing hormone therapy. From that moment on, my life would never be the same. Although I was midway through a graduate degree program in marriage and family therapy, nothing I was studying prepared me for what I was about to experience. Through our journey, as he became the woman she was always meant to be, I learned what compassion, respect and acceptance truly is for an individual who identifies as transgender. In this workshop, I will share not only my uniquely personal story but, most importantly, will provide you with the treatment strategies I have developed over 14 years while working with transgender and gender non-conforming adult clients.
Whether you are working with clients who are already out in the community, living a stealth life, are questioning their gender identity or have just recently come to the realization that they are transgender or gender non-conforming, this seminar will prepare you to become a culturally competent, supportive resource for their exploration of gender identity and gender expression.
Learn how to create a safe and respectful therapeutic environment in which clients can navigate their way through their very personal transition process on the way to living an authentic life. Throw away your preconceived ideas about what is masculine and feminine and open your heart and mind to developing an understanding of what it is like to not adhere to the traditional binary concept of gender. Become the much-needed ally for the transgender community.
This online program is worth 6.25 hours CPD.
