This seminar is an opportunity to learn from 30- year expert and highly accredited therapist and author Lois Kam Heymann, M.A. CCC-SLP, about diagnosis and treatment of Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) and other listening challenges.
This course is a hands-on workshop for clinicians who have some background knowledge about auditory processing disorders and listening challenges. There will be a review of listening sub skills: auditory attention, auditory discrimination, auditory memory, auditory figure/ground, phonological segmentation and blending, and auditory cohesion. Case studies and hierarchical auditory therapy intervention will be presented. You will have the opportunity to practice structuring long and short-term goals, objectives, and activities. Small group work will be encouraged.

Lois Kam Heymann, M.A. CCC-SLP, is a speech and language pathologist with over 30 years experience working with children with listening, hearing and learning challenges and their parents. Lois has presented hundreds of in-service workshops, seminars and conferences, sharing her knowledge and techniques with parent groups, school systems and speech-language pathologists.
Lois was on the faculty of the State University of New York (SUNY), New Paltz where she taught and directed an Auditory Skills Practicum.
She wrote the book: The Sound of Hope: Recognizing, Coping with and Treating Your Child’s Auditory Processing Disorder (Random House Publishing). This book is a parent guide to the importance of listening skills development in children birth to 8 years old. It is a how-to book with easy to follow activities for parents and therapists to implement with children. The book has a forward by Rosie O’Donnell. George Stephanopoulos of “Good Morning America” and Rachel Ray interviewed Lois about her book.
Lois has developed listening language apps for the iPad®: Category Carousel, One Step- Two Step, Tell Me a Story, Listening Adventures: Little Red Riding Hood, Artic Academy, with many more in the development stage. Lois is the director of The Shelley and Steven Einhorn Communication Center at Center for Hearing and Communication in New York City, NY.
